G&H was contracted by Xstrata Alloys to provide engineering and procurement services to both phases of the Xstrata Lion Ferrochrome Smelter Projects. Following the completion by G&H of the Phase 1 feasibility study, we continued into project execution. During 2011 the client awarded G&H the contract to provide project management, engineering and design and project support services, inclusive of procurement, contract management, planning, QA and expediting and accounting, for the Phase 2 Project. Both projects consist of a combined materials receiving and storage facility, rotary dryer followed by two processing streams that incorporate milling, pelletizing, reduction, rotary kilns and furnaces.

Doornbosch Ferrochrome


Samancor Chrome

Following the completion of the feasibility study by G&H, we were awarded the contract to design and project manage the construction of a new 120 ktpm ferrochrome beneficiation plant for Samancor Chrome near Steelpoort, South Africa. The plant consists of scrubbers, spirals, thickeners / screening plant, DMS plant and product and waste stockpiles. The plant was built with future expansion in mind, with the ROM handling facilities designed to cater for double the initially anticipated plant throughput. The project was successfully completed within time and on budget.

Polokwane Smelter Complex

G&H was the EPCM managing the Polokwane Smelter Project for Anglo American Platinum. G&H participated in the feasibility study and then continued into project execution. The scope was for a new greenfield smelter complex to house a 68MW, 6-in-line furnace and associated ancillary systems and equipment, including wet concentrate receiving and transfer systems, flash dryers, coal receiving and storage systems, offgas and fugitive gas handling systems, offgas filtration systems, materials handling systems, furnace feed systems, furnace cooling systems, slag granulation and transfer systems and office complex and infrastructure. The project was successfully completed on time and within budget.
